The Election Commission of India (ECI) Thursday issued the notification for the Vice-Presidential Election 2025, specifying key dates for the electoral process.

According to the notification, nominations can be filed until August 21, and scrutiny of nomination papers will take place on August 22. Withdrawal of candidatures could continue till two days after the scrutiny.

The date of polls as earlier announced has been fixed for September 9, between 10 am to 5 pm in case the election is contested. The counting of votes, if necessary, will commence immediately after the polling concludes at 5 pm on September 9.

Security deposit of candidates amounting to Ra 15,000 is payable in cash or through a government treasury.

The Vice-Presidential Election will follow the standard electoral process, with the Election Commission ensuring the conduct of free and fair polls. The elected Vice-President will play a crucial role in the country’s governance, particularly in their capacity as Chairman of the Rajya Sabha.
